ITT Technical Institute, A definite road to success…. THEIR’S OR YOUR’S?

Just as you have, I’ve also seen the commercials on T.V. with the guy talking about how he was a nobody before attending ITT Technical Institute.  Then after attending, he gets his life together and he and his family live happily ever after, all their dream can now come true.  As enticing as this may seem, these ads always seemed odd to me because no other reputable institution of higher learning takes this approach to advertising.  Usually any school worth the price of admission focuses on their academic program when advertising.  Needless to say for some time I would see the ads for ITT Tech and wonder what the program was all about.

Fortunately for me, and especially for you (if you’re considering enrollment) I have found an inside source to shed light on exactly what you can expect from attending this school.  And my source for this one couldn’t be any more reputable.  Not only did she spend time at this school, her time spent there was as one of the faculty.  That’s right she actually taught there.  I asked if she would write an article about ITT Tech and below are her exact words.

BEWARE!!

The pursuit of education is the means by which the majority of Americans seek to further themselves and their families. It is a long standing belief that through education comes success. It is in fact, this belief that leads thousands to the doors of ITT Tech each year in the hopes of obtaining the knowledge, certification, and degree necessary to move forward in their career or in  some cases to start a new career.  However, noble this pursuit is, ITT is the wrong place to pursue it at.

I can speak from personal experience as a teacher at ITT. I worked as an adjunct faculty member at a location of ITT.. they have over one hundred campuses across the continental united states and it is safe to say that they are all run the same. ITT is a business. before being an institution of educational learning , it is a publicly traded stock company whose primary goal is to increase their shareholders profits. The deliverance of quality education to the non traditional student comes secondary.   This is important to note as it will explain why other things are done.

As a student at ITT upon admittance you will be given a class schedule that is reminiscent of the type of schedule one might receive in high school.  You will start class without your books and then when the books come in, there is one day that the store is open and you can get your books. Unlike a normal college bookstore however, you do not peruse the store and select the items that you need. No.. In fact you go to the window give them your schedule and the faculty member pulls your books out of a box. All neatly wrapped up for all of your classes.. this is due to the lock step programming.. so every student in the program with you will take the same classes as you at the same time, and will have all of the same books.

If you are absent for class, you are fortunate enough to have your professor call you at home to find out why. Please do not think that this is due to their genuine concern for your academic pursuit. No.. hat’s not it at all. In fact, the call because they do not want you to drop out. Dropping out lowers profits, which lowers stock costs, which lowers the investors belief in the stock.. yadda yadda yadda.. You are just a pawn..

If you are absent though, you are called, an the teacher has been instructed to email, fax, or if necessary DELIVER PERSONALLY your missed assignments. The ITT way insists that it is very important that you the student don’t miss any classes.. But again.. this isn’t because they want you to be the next Bill Gates.

They also have awards ceremonies. Although the ceremony is reminiscent of that which you would see in a middle school setting.  Awards are given for perfect attendance, scholarship, citizenship.. and they serve cake.. yummy!!

Now, with all of this wonderful cake eating and ceremonies going on.. you may wonder when is the education going on.. Well here’s the thing. Depending on who is in your class, it may never happen. 

You will find that your classmates are not the studious scholars you may have thought you’d be around. They may not have pencils, books, notebooks.. They may look like they just got out of prison or are on their way into the prison. And they will leave class repeatedly to go hang out on the front steps and smoke. and what will the teacher do? nothing.. nothing he/she can do. but remind students that they must be in the classroom for 60% of each class time.

So at the end of the day, you will have spent, 40k, or take out loans in that amount. you will eat cake. and maybe get a cute little certificate commending you on your citizenship… But if you noticed, nothing in this article mentions anything about getting a job when you get out.. that’s because you won’t.

When I read this my suspicions were confirmed. The commercials for ITT Technical Institute always seemed just a tad cheesy to me and now I see why.  There’s a lesson to be learned from this:  If a company or institution has nothing of value to offer, they will most likely divert attention away from their shortcomings by focusing on the emotions or feelings of the audience instead of what they actually offer.  When you see this pattern always proceed with caution, do your due diligence, continue to shop around.

Obviously, you still have the desire for higher education If ITT Tech is off your list, perhaps here are a few programs you can add to that list.

Is LCM (Lawn Chair Millionaire) worth the price of admission, or just another scam?

My dad and I work together on some of our Internet Marketing (IM) ventures.  He’s fairly new to the IM scene, so a while back I told him that if he found any system or product that caught his attention we could work on it together.  So, a couple months ago I received an e-mail from my dad telling me to check out Lawn Chair Millionaire.  My dad had already joined, and paid the $79 fee.  He forwarded all of the sign-in information so that I could access the back office, check it out and get back to him with my opinion.
I held off on signing in to the back office, I wanted to see Lawn Chair Millionaire’s pitch and find out exactly what a non-member would see.  I wanted to find out what my dad saw that made him join and pay the $79 fee.  You see, my dad is very analytical and cautious with his finances, a lot more cautious than I am. So I wanted to see what made him part with his money.  It had to be something powerful and persuasive, and it was!

I went to Lawn Chair Millionaire.com and right away, I saw the cheesy cliché money graphics with the big house and the yacht in the background.  But what immediately got my attention was this counter called the “Moneyline Pool”.  The dollar amount in this thing just kept growing and growing, the more I waited, the more it grew.  Then they tell me that upon signing up, I’m guaranteed a portion of that amount and I would receive my money the moment I sign up.  As powerful as this was, I was not moved to act.  Not because I’m so smart or savvy, but because I was already in.  Remember, my dad gave me access to the back office so I knew that we had already secured our portion of the moneyline pool for that day although I didn’t know how much.  So I was able to dis-arm Lawn Chair Millionaire’s Vulcan-like grip on my emotions and desires and continue to analyze this program objectively.  Now after seeing this amazingly powerful squeeze page, I wanted to take the next step that anyone interested in the program would. So I gave up my e-mail address and name to advance to the next page, this is where I would find out what Lawn Chair Millionaire is all about.  Or so I thought.

Ok, so I give up my info and get to the pitch page.  And basically, what I see is 5 tabs linked to 5 pages that supposedly explain what the system is and how we can use it to make money.  But all I see when I click ON ALL 5 PAGES is, “MONEYLINE POOL, blah, blah, blah, JOIN NOW!”  “MONEYLINE POOL, blah, blah, blah, JOIN NOW!” and this goes on for all 5 pages.  They know that this moneyline pool has a very strong appeal so they place it at the beginning of every page, then double talk you in circles, then there’s the call to action, or the “Join Now”.  So dazzled by this moneyline pool, folks don’t notice that the pitch page hasn’t told them much of anything, all they know is that when they sign up, they will get paid TODAY!!  Now, I give credit where credit is due, and I must say, this is a brilliant move on their part.  But enough of this experiment, I gotta see how much of this “pool” we got when my dad signed up, and I gotta see how we’re going to make money with this thing, so I log in with the user name and password my dad e-mailed me.

In the pitch pages, there was a mention of this “VAULT” and this was how we were supposed to make money.  Now the vault contained about 4 or 5 products, one of which immediately caught my attention, but in order to market these products for re-sale and make a commission, you first had to purchase the product yourself.  We’re talking about hundreds of dollars to purchase them all.  Like I said , there was one product that I liked a lot, I wanted this one for myself.  I didn’t care if I never made a dime re-selling it.  Honestly, this find made the whole thing worth while for me and my dad.  But that’s me.
OH, did I mention that in order to receive our portion of the “moneyline pool” (which amounted to a whopping $23 and some change, paid out over 3 months) we had to purchase Lawn Chair Millionaire’s debit card for $30. So much for our share of the moneyline pool!
Needless to say, we jumped ship before having to pay the monthly fee of $29,  oh, did I forget to mention that they charge a monthly fee?  It’s too much to recall all at once.
And that’s your insider’s scoop on LCM(Lawn Chair Millionaire).

THE VERDICT
By now it’s obvious, I didn’t like Lawn Chair Millionaire, there are probably a few guys at the very top making a KILLING with this thing, but in my humble opinion LCM is about as close to a SCAM as you can get without actually being one.  I say this because I did find one gem on the site that I liked.  So, since there was value found, I can’t call it a complete SCAM.
I would NOT recommend Lawn Chair Millionaire because their pitch is very misleading.  There are too many surprises once they have your money, and the one brilliant idea LCM had (the moneyline pool) is useless, to pay $30 to redeem $23 doesn’t make much sense at all.

ALTERNATIVES
There are a couple programs I found that excited me AFTER finding out ALL THE DETAILS.  These programs don’t require your grocery, gas, or rent money to join.  In fact, one is ABSOLUTELY FREE  to join and it explains EXACTLY HOW IT MAKES YOU MONEY right upfront, it’s absolutely amazing.
